About the Artist
Tamara Vieira grew up in a small town near Cape Town, South African. She showed a passion for sketching and painting from a young age, following in the footsteps of her mother and grandparents.
She enjoyed art as a subject in high school and graduated with 100% for painting in her final year. Several of her artworks recieved awards at the Montague Youth Arts Festival.
With science as another passion Tamara went on to study and become a winemaker. This field of work allowed her to work and visit California for the first time. She developed a deep love for the state with it's bright green vineyards and rugged coastline.
Tamara continued to paint in her spare time and after the birth of her daughter she left the wine industry to pursue her first love of oil painting professionally.
With time it became clear that she was drawn to the mountains, oceans and lakes of her favorite places in South Africa and California. These subjects remain her main inspiration and favored subject material in her work.
As she progressed from studio to plein air her painting style developed in a way that made painting faster possible. She does not tone her canvas panels but rather prefers to work wet on wet, starting with an almost 'watercolor' like wash and slightly thicker mid tones. The final touches are most often made with thick paint to add light or detail to the focal area in her paintings.
She puts her heart into her work and hopes to capture the essence of each joyful moment that she experiences as she chooses a beautiful landscape to paint.
